This Privacy Policy describes how schnap! ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the schnap! mobile application and related services (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address and password when you create an account.
• Screenshots and Images: Visual content you capture, import, or share to the app.
• User Content: Collections, study sets, flashcards, tags, learning guides, shared boards, and marketplace packs you create.
• Profile Information: Display name, nickname, and avatar you optionally provide.
• Feedback: Comments and ratings you submit through the feedback feature.

Information Collected Automatically

• Clipboard Data: When you copy a video URL, schnap! reads the clipboard to auto-link screenshots to source videos. Clipboard data is processed locally and only video URLs are stored.
• OCR Text: Text extracted from your screenshots using optical character recognition, processed via OpenAI's API. We ask for your permission before any of your content is sent to OpenAI, and you can turn AI processing off at any time in Profile → AI Processing. If you decline, your screenshots are still saved and linked to their sources, but text search, study guides, and flashcards won't work.
• Usage Analytics: App usage events, screen views, and feature interactions via PostHog. No personally identifiable information is included in analytics events.
• Error Reports: Crash reports and error logs via Sentry to help us fix bugs.
• Device Information: Device type, OS version, and app version for compatibility.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Auto-link screenshots to source video content
• Generate AI study guides and extract text from screenshots via OpenAI
• Process subscription payments via Apple In-App Purchases (managed by RevenueCat)
• Send you service-related notifications
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the product
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

• Supabase: Database, authentication, and file storage (US-based).
• OpenAI: Screenshot images and imported pages (to extract text) and study set content (to generate study guides), only with your permission. Under OpenAI's API terms, this data is not used for training.
• RevenueCat: Subscription management for Apple In-App Purchases.
• PostHog: Anonymous product analytics.
• Sentry: Error tracking and crash reports.
• Apple: In-App Purchase transactions.

4. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days, including screenshots, collections, study materials, and profile information. Shared board ownership is transferred to the next member. Published marketplace packs are anonymized.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Delete your account and all associated data (available in app settings)
• Export your data upon request
• Opt out of analytics (contact us)

6. Children's Privacy

schnap! is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted data storage, Row Level Security (RLS) for data isolation, and secure HTTPS connections. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the effective date.
